Do you think you can't draw? Don't worry, everyone has to start at the beginning, and if you can write your name, you can draw. This course will support student’s with little to no knowledge of drawing to gain confidence.These classes will show you that you can draw and will help you to develop the techniques to see as an artist sees. Line, tone, texture and form will be employed to produce drawings using various media and techniques. This class introduces the fundamentals of drawing from how to measure proportions, design and perspective. You will develop skills through the study of a range of subjects such as still life, architecture, plant, natural or manufactured objects. Students will be guided and encouraged to try different techniques and methods of drawing as well as exploring composition, negative and positive space and colour to build essential skills important in all aspects of the production of art.This course is for complete beginners, as well as anyone who wants to review their skills.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain – for Beginners and Intermediate Students

This simple effective program will teach anyone the basic skills of drawing. Using only paper, pencil, charcoal and your own focused commitment to relaxing into a new way of seeing and operating, you will learn to draw realistically. This class is designed for those with little or no drawing training who believe that learning to draw well is only possible for people with ‘inborn talent’. You can be a better artist than you have ever imagined, you just haven’t learned how to use your right brain! Find out how you can access that mode of brain activity that deals with visual, perceptual thinking, creativity and intuition. The tuition is personalised, encouraging and focused on individual outcomes. Students from previous courses will be included in this course, but at a higher level.

Creatively Explore Figure Drawing from the Life Model
Length: 8 weeks Cost: $275
The human figure offers every challenge one could require - line and tone, perspective and composition. Learn how to understand the figure and translate your observations into articulate and complete drawings. You will learn how to draw the contours and proportions of the human figure in an energetic and inspiring atmosphere. Using long poses by life models allow you time to experiment with the techniques. This course will heighten your understanding of form, structure, foreshortening, light and shadow. Observation, using measurements and the use of drawing media will be included in this course. We offer structured life drawing classes where students learn an understanding the human form including gesture, portraiture and anatomy. This class is for those wanting to acquire skills required for life drawing or those seeking to expand existing skills.

LEARN TO ACCURATELY DRAW OR PAINT THE PORTRAIT FROM PHOTOS
Length: 8 weeks Cost: $259
The process of drawing the portrait can be divided into three stages, contour- to create outlines, rendering and shading to accentuating details, and contrast to create volume of the portrait. Using photographic references you will learn the correct way of depicting the portrait including the fundamentals of anatomy, proportion, line and tone. This course is an intensive study of the human face from structure to expressive interpretation. Using step-by-step exercises, those who are new to drawing portraits will develop an understanding of facial anatomy, the role of light sources and shade, composition as well as learn a variety of technical approaches. Students who have successfully learned the drawing component will move onto painting the portrait. This will focus on capturing the light in your painting by learning to see and understand the relationship of tonal value, proportion, composition, colour mixing plus the recipe for mixing skin tones. Demonstrations will be an important ingredient of this course.

Create Pastel Paintings that are Intense in Colour and Design
Length: 8 weeks Cost: $259
Pastels are simple and immediate; it is possible for you as an artist to portray any kind of mood in pastels. They offer the colour of painting, but are a more spontaneous medium, and more portable for working outside. The versatility of pastels can deliver any type of artistic style, from linear drawing, sketchy style or strong vibrant, multi-layered paintings. This course will take the mystery out of producing eye catching pastel paintings. We will take you through all the stages of making a picture, from composing and planning, to final colouring. When your paint is dry and colours don't need mixing, there is an opportunity to produce work quickly. Learn techniques to avoid creating dull paintings and discover how to create pastel paintings of luminous richness and colour. Pastel is a wonderfully expressive medium; this course will ensure your works are optical illusions capturing depth and movement. The effect of light and the use of colour and tone will be will be discussed and demonstrated. Working from photographs you will be encouraged to develop your own style.
